As a "religious person," I can try and answer your question Bill. Not here to start a debate or get anyone super upset because I believe something, just trying to do my best to explain my end to things (not that it ever goes well on the internet but whatever). So most people are somewhat familiar with the story in Genesis. We were created in Gods image, we are given free will and essentially there's a bunch of do's but there's only one don't: don't eat the fruit. We eat the fruit and sin comes into the world. And sin is what spawns every bad thing. Most bad things in this world are a result of us sinning against ourselves, sinning against one another (both of which you could say are accurate even if you believe this is a bunch of mumbo jumbo which I'm sure plenty of you will in the comments) or sinning against God. The idea that the satan (original text translates to the adversary) is behind every bad thing isnt all that accurate and I think it's people not taking accountability for their own sin. Personally, I believe that the satan and demons are real and they do evil things - but often they are just tempters. We still have our free will. Finally Bill, to address your view on God, to see him only as a judge is pretty unfortunate, and I think it's a result of a lot of preachers out there. Generally you've got small time churches with angry preachers or big time televangelists who preach the prosperity Gospel and neither are right. Read the book, look at the cultural context and meaning behind the things going on. Whether you actually believe it or not, Christianity and the Bible have had a huge impact on our entire world for most of its existence (if not all for those that believe). People often say God loves you, which is true but if you believe in the Bible then it's not enough. God IS love. The fact that there is love in our world and that people can be loved is because of God. But God, being God is also sovereign. Meaning that regardless of what you like or don't like or agree or don't agree with, it's the right thing to do. Whether you believe or don't believe that, put the same circumstances into a hypothetical situation and it still stands true. As for God being a "judge," yes God also is a judge and there is right & wrong. But if there wasn't then it would completely go against God's character... As God. The most important and essential point of being a Christian is that you believe God sent his son Jesus to die and cover all your sins. So your whole "he needs to take accountability," well that's what Jesus did essentially. So that's brings me to my point, "Therefore there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1. Theres no way you'd read that whole thing but if you did, love your work Bill your hilarious.
